St. Bede Pupils Aid Homeless
The pupils at St. Bede Catholic School chose to help the South Hayward Parish, a collective of faith communities that offers food, shelter and services to the poor, this Advent season by packing lunches for the homeless. South Hayward Parish is a warming shelter for 25 adults offering a warm dinner and light breakfast, Dec. 1 - April 30. It also provides a to-go lunch each day to those staying at the shelter. With the help and support of their families, St. Bede pupils gathered enough canned meats, granola bars, fruit cups, and juice packets to make more than 200 lunches. They wrote messages of hope, love and peach and packed them in each lunch bag. Before going on Christmas break several classes loaded up their wagons with care and walked the lunches down to the South Hayward Parish. As the students approached the center they began singing Christmas carols. Those at the shelter were overcome with joy when they saw all of the wagons come rolling in, filled with so many lunches.
