Prayer to St. Bede

Venerable Saint Bede,
Patron of our Catholic School,

Thank you for being an example of holiness,
goodness and wisdom.

Thank you for inspiring us to be lifelong learners
who are always eager to know more.

Inspire us to read and hear the Word,
which helps us to know Jesus and to follow his ways.

Help us to love God with all our hearts, and to love
and respect our classmates, teachers, and families.

Guide us to use our words kindly and wisely so
that we can be effective communicators
who listen carefully and speak thoughtfully.

Above all, give us courage to live like Jesus lived.

Amen.

    Our Patron Saint

St. Bede the Venerable

St. Bede was an English writer and monk who was born in A.D. 672 or 673 and died in A.D. 735. Living  during a time when very few people knew how to even read or write, St. Bede became a great scholar who helped spread Christianity by translating many Latin and Greek works of faith into English. He also wrote many of his own books about theology, poetry, scientce and history.  His masterwork, “The History of the English Church and People,” is considered by most scholars to be the first true work of English history.

Pope Leo XIII officially recognized Bede as a saint in 1899 and named him a “Doctor of the Church”  in recognition of his contributions to Catholic scholarship.  He is only one of 37 Saints in the entire history of the Catholic church to be given this honor.

St. Bede is the patron saint of scholars, historians, lectors and English writers.

We are very happy to have such an appropriate patron saint for a school!
